Our Philosophy

Building Capacity for A Better Tomorrow

Growth of the Community Foundation’s assets is driven largely by a prudent, long-term investment strategy that is intended to allow the organization to grow and succeed in perpetuity. Assets are invested to achieve returns that support immediate community needs while preserving and growing the endowment for future generations.

The Community Foundation’s spending policy is designed to insulate against short-term market volatility, helping to prevent overspending when the market is up or underspending when the market is down. Spending from endowed funds is calculated based on a fund’s average balance over the previous 20-quarters, with approximately 5 percent of this average value available for spending on annual basis.

The Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees manages the organization’s investment portfolio through its Executive Committee and Investment Advisory Group, who work closely with staff and an investment consultant to set policy, establish performance benchmarks and monitor the effectiveness and diversification of the portfolio.
