The Ride for Missing Children - Mohawk Valley, Inc. Fund
A fiscal sponsorship of The Ride for Missing Children - Mohawk Valley, Inc., a nonprofit that supports the mission of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to help find missing children, reduce child exploitation, and prevent child victimization by organizing an annual fundraising bicycle ride.
Overview
What grew out of a community search for one local girl has turned into the largest annual fundraiser for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Sara Anne Wood went missing in August 1993. The entire community mobilized to help find her and the Sara Anne Wood Rescue Center was established to print and distribute missing child posters to aid in the search.
Sara was riding her bicycle when she vanished. In 1995, her father, Bob Wood, and six other men rode their bicycles from Washington Mills to Washington, D.C. to draw attention to the Rescue Center and the plight of all missing children. The next year the Sara Anne Wood Rescue Center became the Mohawk Valley Office of NCMEC - NY. In 1997, The Ride for Missing Children, hundreds of riders riding 2 abreast throughout our area was born. The riders promise to honor the memory of all missing children, raise public awareness to the plight of all missing and exploited children, and the need for child safety education and to raise funds to support the NCMEC – NY mission.
The Ride for Missing Children – Mohawk Valley raises money to support the NCMEC mission. Our community can take pride in the fact that our Ride was the first, became the biggest and is still the most successful annual fund raiser that NCMEC has.
