Kirkland Fellowship
The Kirkland Fellowship is awarded to teachers in the Clinton Central School District who seek to improve the effectiveness of their teaching to all students and to contribute to the advancement of teaching in our public schools.
Overview
The Kirkland Fellowship was established by Gordon and Elizabeth Hayes and Richard, Patricia and Esther Couper who were natives of Clinton. The Hayes and Couper families desired to support the local community and Clinton Central School District by providing teachers with learning opportunities that help to improve student success.
The Kirkland Fellowship award may be used to assist teachers attend a school, institute, workshop or training program to stay current of new developments in a particular field, increase knowledge of a certain subject matter, for original research with intent to publish or to learn new teaching methodologies. The monetary award may also be used for independent study or the implementation of a special project or curriculum not underwritten by an annual school district budget.

Please review the following criteria prior to applying to see if you qualify.

This fellowship is limited to teachers in the Clinton Central School District with at least five years of teaching experience in the Clinton Central School District or another school district

The effects of the Fellowship experience would include refreshment and rejuvenation for the recipient as well as identifiable benefits for students in the classroom deriving from stimulus provided by the teacher

In the case of several strong applications, priority will be given to applicants who have never received a Kirkland Fellowship or have only received the award one time previously

The Fellowship must be completed during the summer the same year as the award is made unless prior arrangements have been made at the time of application or special circumstances occur in which case the committee must approve any time changes

While fellowship awards have averaged about $2,000, greater amounts have been given for outstanding proposals

The award is not intended to be used to meet the costs of obtaining a masters or doctorate degree
