Overview
The mission of the Clinton Historical Society is to collect, preserve, document, research, and interpret the Town of Kirkland and the Clinton community’s past for current and future generations, and to make its rich heritage readily available to our membership and general public through public programs, exhibits and publications. Since its inception in 1960, the Clinton Historical Society has been at the forefront of community efforts to preserve the historic Old Burying Ground, which dates to 1788, and to honor those who rest there.
The Clinton Historical Society is one of many community groups working to preserve the Old Burying Ground, the resting place of Clinton's early settlers and home to veterans of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War. Donations received by this fund will be used for: general improvements to the cemetery; the purchase of tombstones for thirteen Revolutionary War veterans with no stones (including Village of Clinton Founder Moses Foote); the purchase of memorials honoring three Native Americans and six African Americans buried in the Old Burying Ground.
