Clark Mills, Town of Kirkland and Affected Areas Storm Relief Fund Established to Support Recovery After June 22 Storm

A storm relief fund has been established by the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, in partnership with Oneida County, in response to the severe thunderstorms and EF1 tornado that impacted Clark Mills, the Town of Kirkland, and surrounding areas on June 22, which caused widespread power outages and destruction to homes and buildings.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, community members, nonprofit partners, and local leaders gathered together for the highly anticipated Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the newly reintroduced Cornhill Empowerment Center. The event, held at 230 James Street in Utica, marked an exciting new chapter for the neighborhood and was a major success.

The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties and UpMobility Foundation are pleased to announce that the fourth-annual online day of community giving, “Mohawk Valley Gives,” will take place on Friday, September 19, benefiting nonprofits serving Herkimer, Oneida, and Otsego counties. Nonprofit organizations interested in participating must complete a brief registration form at givemv.org between Thursday, May 1, through Saturday, May 31.

Record-Breaking Giving Day, Mohawk Valley Gives, Raises More Than $5.2 Million For Area Nonprofits

The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties and UpMobility Foundation hosted the third annual “Mohawk Valley Gives,” on September 20 to raise funds for local nonprofits serving Herkimer, Oneida and Otsego counties. The community came together and raised over $5.2 million thanks to contributions from more than 8,200 donors, making it a record-breaking year for the campaign. All 325 participating nonprofit organizations received a donation through the giving event.

Community Foundation Announces Grants Awarded from Hero Fund America Fund

The Hero Fund America Fund at the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties recently awarded over $20,000 to 17 first-responder organizations across the United States. The fund annually seeks to help meet the education, training, lifesaving equipment and mental health needs of fire, emergency medical services (EMS), and law enforcement agencies.

Oneida County, the City of Utica, and the Community Foundation announced a partnership to conduct an urban planning study of the West Street and James Street corridors where two anticipated impact centers will serve as the anchors of the $74M Cornhill Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.
