In partnership with Oneida County, the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties is seeking applications from local nonprofit organizations for programs that address the unique needs and challenges of at-risk youth in Oneida County and provide meaningful services which help to reduce acts of violence among youth.

The Oneida County Youth Investment Initiative invites nonprofits to apply for $25,000 to $450,000 to expand existing programs or create new programs that foster positive youth development, strengthen community ties, and reduce factors that contribute to youth violence. Preference will be given to programs that involve collaborative partnerships and demonstrate innovative approaches to prevention with other nonprofits, schools, law enforcement, and/or local government agencies.

Applications will be accepted from May 13 – June 30, through the Community Foundation’s Grant Application Portal.

Programs seeking funding must align with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Youth Violence Prevention Resource for Action Guide which represents a select group of strategies to help communities sharpen their approach to prevention. The strategies outlined in the guide are intended to impact individual behaviors and the relationships, families, schools, and communities that influence risk and protective factors for youth.

“Every young person in Oneida County deserves the opportunity to succeed in a safe, supportive environment and this initiative is about making that investment in their future,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “In partnering with the Community Foundation, this county-created and led program will strengthen nonprofit organizations and community stakeholders that provide mentorship, guidance and positive opportunities for at-risk youth while addressing the root causes of youth violence. These investments will help build stronger neighborhoods, safer communities and brighter futures for the next generation.”

An informational session for nonprofit applicants will be held on June 2, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Community Foundation, 2608 Genesee Street, Utica, NY. Interested and eligible applicants are encouraged to attend to learn more about the initiative and ask questions regarding submissions. Visit foundationhoc.org/events to RSVP by May 25.

“This initiative reflects a shared commitment between Oneida County and the Community Foundation to invest in the well-being and future of our youth,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Alicia Dicks. “We know that lasting impact happens through collaboration, and we’re proud to assist Oneida County in launching this initiative that will create positive pathways, strengthen families and communities, and provide youth with the support they need to succeed.”
