Community Foundation Awards More Than $50,000 to Food Pantries and Soup Kitchens

The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties distributed $52,795 to more than 30 local food pantries and soup kitchens this week. With Thanksgiving just days away, this contribution aims to help those organizations providing food for individuals and families this holiday season.

“Food insecurity remains a major pain point for many in this community,” said Alicia Dicks, president/CEO. “There are many groups that have stepped up to help address this issue and we hope that these funds can help these partners during some of the busiest months of the year.”

”We are very glad to accept this donation from the Community Foundation,” says Mary Beth Plourde, chairman of the Waterville Area Food Panty. “The funds will be used to purchase hams for our holiday food baskets. We are so grateful to help give local families a bountiful holiday meal!”

“Once again, the Community Foundation is investing in our community by distributing much needed funds to help alleviate food insecurity,” said John Madej, executive director of Hope House. “Winter is a stressful time for many and worrying about where your next meal is coming from should not be part of that stress. We thank them for their continued partnership with local pantries and soup kitchens.”
