Kevin Bing Crossley 2

The Kevin “Bing” Crossley Memorial Foundation was recently established at The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties in honor of Kevin “Bing” Crossley, a Village of Whitesboro police officer who lost his life in a motor vehicle accident while on patrol in April 2018.

The foundation was established by Kevin’s parents, George and Linda Crossley, with community donations the family received, including those from a GoFundMe campaign.

“Many people have asked how the family plans to spend the GoFundMe proceeds,” said Frank Candella, a long-time friend of Kevin’s and member of the foundation’s advisory committee. “The Crossley family feels fortunate to have had Kevin’s funeral expenses paid for. As a result, they want to give back to the local community in Bing’s memory.”

“George and I were just overwhelmed with the generosity and gratitude of our family, friends, and the people in this community; they took money out of their own pockets to help. Thanks to them, we are able to open this fund to honor Kevin,” said Linda. “He would be so proud to know we’re doing something to help kids and the community that he enjoyed working for.”

The foundation will award scholarships in areas that interested Kevin, such as small engine repair and criminal justice, as well as support community outreach programs that help bring together local youth and law enforcement communities.

The Crossleys and members of the foundation’s advisory committee plan to hold events in Kevin’s honor, including corn hole and golf tournaments and poker runs, to raise additional funds for the foundation.

Kevin fulfilled his lifelong dream of serving his community as a police officer, first with the Town of Whitestown Police Department and most recently with the Village of Whitesboro Police Department. A lifelong resident of Whitesboro, Kevin also served previously as a captain with the Whitesboro Fire Department and enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycles, camping and boating in his spare time.
