The Herkimer County Office for the Aging has announced the establishment of the Herkimer County Office for the Aging Charitable Fund through the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, created to enhance and expand vital services for older adults throughout the community.
Herkimer County Office for the Aging plans, funds, and delivers services for residents age 60 and older, promoting independence, dignity and the ability to age in place. Serving over 2,500 adults each year, the organization provides meals, nutritional counseling, transportation, in-home services, caregiver services, technology classes, health promotion activities, and community outreach, among others. The agency also coordinates annual initiatives such as a Christmas Gift Collection and Spring Cleanup.
In collaboration with Herkimer County HealthNet, the Office for the Aging is working on an Age Friendly Action Plan so that Herkimer County can be a community that supports people of all ages. Age-friendly communities are great places to grow up and to grow old. An age-friendly community, no matter its size, supports people in leading active, healthy and productive lives.
“We hope to utilize this fund to raise dollars to further support our mission,” said Kathy Fox, director of the Herkimer County Office for the Aging. “This community is very generous, and we hope that they can assist us so that we can continue to provide these essential services to older adults in Herkimer County.”
