As an annual run-walk honoring his memory continues to grow each year, the family of Connor Lynskey is partnering with the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties to ensure the Hinckley teen’s legacy will live on.
The Connor Arthur Lynskey Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2018, and since, the fund has awarded more than 20 scholarships to students in the community.
“When we lost Connor, many monetary donations came in, and the family decided to start a scholarship to keep his memory alive,” said Connor’s uncle Don Lynskey. “Soon after that, a close friend suggested that we start a run and walk in his memory, and that was the beginning of Connor’s Way Run/Walk and the source for continuing his memorial scholarship program year after year.”
The prospect of the run-walk and scholarship fund’s continued growth led the family to pursue a permanent partnership; as a result, the Connor Arthur Lynskey Memorial Scholarship Fund will now be administered by the Community Foundation, so that the promising teen’s story will inspire and support young people for generations to come.
“Connor left such an impression on everyone he met. He was outgoing, dearly loved his family and his church, and he wanted to make a difference in this community by becoming a rural doctor,” said Don. “We are happy to continue his legacy and lead students down Connor’s Way.”
Scholarship awards will be available to graduating Holland Patent Central School seniors, as well as other high school seniors from Oneida and Herkimer counties. Connor aspired to be a rural physician, and this scholarship program aims to keep his memory alive and financially help medical and high school students to pursue their studies.
