The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties will host the first 24-hour day of community giving, “Mohawk Valley Gives,” on September 20, to benefit local nonprofits serving the two counties.
Over 150 nonprofits have signed up to participate, using social media and other means of engagement to inspire and energize their donors. Support areas include animal rights, disability services, racial equity, education, arts and culture, emergency response, poverty and hunger, entrepreneurship, health and wellness, and many others. The full list of participating nonprofits is available at givemv.org.
“When we began to discuss ways to mark the Community Foundation’s 70th anniversary year, the idea of an organized community giving day seemed like a natural way to put the focus where it belongs—on our nonprofit partners,” said Alicia Fernandez Dicks, president/CEO. “Mohawk Valley Gives has the potential to enhance donor support for the organizations that meet so many needs, and not just this year. We plan to make this an annual event that grows support for nonprofits over time so they can do more for our two-county community.”
Although donations will be accepted for the entire month, through September 30, giving on September 20 will help nonprofits maximize their fundraising goals throughout the day with donation matches, challenges and other Mohawk Valley Gives incentives. A “match” is a pool of funds donated by a person or company to double the amount raised by an organization. A "challenge" is a gift that can be unlocked by meeting a goal of dollars raised or donors engaged.
“The Kelberman Center is very excited to participate in Mohawk Valley Gives,” said Kelly Carinci, chief development and communications officer. “This is such a great way for our community to come together to support all the work that local nonprofits are doing. We will be able to reach donors and community members in new ways to help promote our life-changing autism services for children, adults and families. We hope to gain new friends and partners on September 20 and possibly for years to come.”
Mohawk Valley Gives is powered by the Community Foundation and proudly presented by Staffworks and M&T Bank. This event is made possible by the following sponsors: Rising Phoenix Holdings Corporation, Adirondack Bank, Bank of Utica, Semicron Danfoss, Berkshire Bank, The Mele Family Fund of the Community Foundation, Divine Development and Leadership, Lead Car Honda Yorkville, M.A. Polce, Baird, Birch Wealth Management, Kessler Promotions, C&D Advertising, Pulver Roofing, Newport Telephone, Snyder Fuel Service, Park Outdoor, PJ Green, and New York Sash.
