$150,000 Will Help Halloween 2019 Storm Victims
Utica-based Rising Phoenix Holdings Corporation and The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties today announced a successful conclusion to a matching grant effort to aid residents of the two counties affected by the October 2019 flooding.
Rising Phoenix announced in November it would match $50,000 in donations to The Community Foundation for flood assistance, doubling the community’s response. The challenge has been achieved, and The Community Foundation today announced that it has committed an additional $50,000 to the $100,000 generated by the Rising Phoenix match, for a total of $150,000. The money will be allocated to meet previously identified needs.
“A business stepped up, the community responded, and the success of this effort reminds us how our community responds to help those in need,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Alicia Dicks. “We’re pleased that donors, Rising Phoenix and The Community Foundation came together to make a difference.”
The three-way effort adds to Oneida County’s $1 million commitment to aid residents, businesses and local governments affected by the flooding. The Community Foundation has partnered with the county to process aid applications and distribute $500,000 in funding to Oneida County victims of the 2019 event. The $150,000 in aid announced today will go to those affected by flooding in both counties.
