Community Foundation Awards Over $2 Million to Nonprofits, Opens 6 New Funds
The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties announced more than $2 million in grants during the first quarter of 2024 to organizations and initiatives primarily in the areas of human services, health, arts and culture, and education.
The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties announced more than $2 million in grants during the first quarter of 2024 to organizations and initiatives primarily in the areas of human services, health, arts and culture, and education.
In February, the Community Foundation invited Herkimer and Oneida County nonprofits to apply for its Education, Health, and Sciences Grant Round. Eight organizations received funding totaling over $87,000:
- Clinton Central School District Foundation for summer programs
- Masonic Medical Research Institute for the summer fellowship program
- Poland District Public Library for educational and cultural summer programs
- Project Fibonacci Foundation for the 2024 Project Fibonacci Youth STEAM Leadership Program
- Rescue Mission of Utica to provide products and services at a drop-in center for those who are homeless
- Thea Bowman House for the Reading Rockets Summer Reading Program
- Upstate Caring Partners for early intervention assessments
- Utica RISE (Rehabilitation and Integrative Services for Everyone) for expansion of a pro bono physical therapy clinic
The Community Foundation’s donor-advised funds awarded 51 grants in the first quarter of 2024 totaling nearly $500,000 to the following nonprofits:

Grants are made possible through the generosity of donors and organizations that create funds at the Community Foundation. The following new funds were recently created to benefit residents of Herkimer and Oneida counties for years to come:
- DiMeo Family Fund – A fund established in memory of Steve DiMeo for general charitable purposes.
- ECR International – Utica Division Scholarship Fund – An expendable scholarship fund established by ECR International's Utica Division to offer scholarship opportunities to dependents of their employees.
- Midtown Utica Community Center Fund – An agency fund established by the Midtown Utica Community Center to administer and invest its charitable assets.
- Olmsted City of Greater Utica Fund – An agency fund established by Olmsted City of Greater Utica to administer and invest its charitable assets.
- Project Fibonacci Fund – An agency fund established by the Project Fibonacci Foundation to administer and invest its charitable assets.
