Alexandra G. Kogut Memorial Fund Awards Multiple Grants to Community
The Alexandra G. Kogut Memorial Fund awards multiple grants to the community.
The Alexandra G. Kogut Memorial Fund was created by Becky and Mark Kogut in honor of their daughter, Alexandra, to support community organizations that share her passion and kindness. Each year, several grants are awarded through this donor-advised fund of The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, allowing Alexandra’s spirit to live on. The funds are raised through annual events, such as the Alexandra Kogut Memorial 5K and the Alex G. Kogut Golf Tournament, as well as community donations.
The funds have supported the following community organizations through grants:
Utica Dollars for Scholars
Through Utica Dollars for Scholars, the Alexandra G. Kogut Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a high school student in Herkimer or Oneida counties with a strong work ethic, leadership qualities, volunteer experience and a good academic record.
The House of the Good Shepherd
This grant will be used to purchase soil, seeds and fertilizer for a student garden at The House of the Good Shepherd’s Tilton School. Each year, students plant a garden to learn about responsibility and growth.
Arrowhead Beach
Arrowhead Beach in the Town of Inlet received a grant to purchase necessary equipment, including new umbrellas and a waterproof portable defibrillator.
Thea Bowman House
This grant will be used for books and supplies for the Reading Rockets Soaring Summer Program. The program aims to improve literacy among elementary children in Herkimer and Oneida counties by focusing on reading, writing and spelling.
Hope House
The grant supports Hope House’s new building campaign to relocate to a more conducive building that meets the growing demands for its services that provide nutritious meals to those in need.
Mother Marianne’s Westside Kitchen
Mother Marianne’s Westside Kitchen received a grant to replace furniture, including new tables and chairs. Each month, more than 3,000 meals are served to those in need in the surrounding areas.
Addison Miller Pool
The Addison Miller Pool, located in West Utica, offers free swimming lessons to local children during the summer. Funds will be used to purchase new safety equipment, including floatation devices and kick boards, as well as for a water safety instructor to oversee the program.
Grants are awarded to programs and organizations that reflect Alexandra’s passion, including swimming and her love for children.
