Overview

The William (Obie) J. Obernesser Jr. Memorial Fund was established in 2026 to honor the life and legacy of a teacher, referee, friend, and community member who made a lasting impact through his positivity, humor, and commitment to others. During his career as a special education teacher, Obie recognized the strengths and potential of young people and encouraged them to persevere, both in and outside the classroom. The fund carries forward that commitment by supporting students who have faced learning and/or physical challenges, demonstrated perseverance and a positive outlook, and are pursuing employment or vocational, trade, technical, or apprenticeship training.

The fund’s mission extends beyond scholarships to include support for local individuals, programs, and organizations through fundraising, community partnerships, and charitable giving. By focusing on opportunities that encourage personal growth, perseverance, and success, the fund aims to create a lasting community resource that reflects the values Obie demonstrated throughout his life: positivity, generosity, humor, and a belief in the potential of others.
