James "Jim" E. Brown Scholarship Fund
A scholarship fund established in memory of James "Jim" E. Brown to provide awards for graduating seniors from Gloversville Enlarged School District and other districts in Fulton County planning to continue their education in a STEAM-related field.
Overview
Born and raised in Gloversville, Jim Brown graduated from Gloversville High School in 1976. He went on to pursue his passion for fixing things and understanding how they work by attending Fulton-Montgomery Community College, where he earned a degree in electrical technology in 1978. Friends recall that while they were studying in the library, Jim was often found in the labs, immersed in a new project.
After graduation, he started his first job at the former Coleco Industries in Amsterdam as a technician, kickstarting a lifelong career in electronics engineering. Passionate about the things he worked on, Jim was a dedicated and diligent worker, and he advanced his career with several technology companies, living in Gloversville, Portland, ME and lastly Worcester, MA.
Jim followed a path of lifelong learning, never satisfied with what he’d already accomplished, always striving to learn something new and looking forward to the next challenge. He made sure that when his niece and nephew headed off to college that they had the best computer possible so that they could be well prepared with the tools needed to start them toward their futures. It is this thought that inspires the establishment of the James E “Jim” Brown Scholarship.
This fund will provide awards for graduating seniors from Gloversville Enlarged School District and other districts in Fulton County planning to continue their education in a STEAM-related field.
