Rome, NY Emergency Response Fund
An emergency response fund established to directly support recovery efforts in Rome, NY following damage inflicted on July 16, 2024 after severe storms and a tornado tore through the area.
Overview
A massive thunderstorm and tornado struck Rome, NY and the surrounding area on the afternoon of July 16, causing widespread damage to buildings, trees and residential properties throughout the city.
Notable damage includes the iconic B-52 airplane being knocked off of its foundation and the steeple collapsing into the roof of St. Mary's of the Assumption Church on West Liberty St., heavily damaging the building.
“In the aftermath of destruction, we are reminded of our strength as a community,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Alicia Fernandez Dicks. “Our friends in Rome and the surrounding area need all of us right now, and this fund will bring hope and healing to the lives and communities devastated by this storm.”
All donations made to this emergency response fund will directly support relief and recovery efforts being undertaken by community nonprofit organizations and local municipalities. This effort will be a collaboration between several local foundations and funders to support the citizens of Rome. This is the only official emergency response fund regarding this natural disaster.
