Donations to The Community Foundation Help Oneida & Herkimer Counties

Donating to The Community Foundation is one of the best ways you can impact Herkimer County and Oneida County. Donations of any size are welcomed and appreciated. Your donation may be unrestricted, can support Oneida or Herkimer counties where the need is the greatest or both Herkimer County and Oneida County, and you may give to one of our more than 300 named funds. Every donation is promptly acknowledged by letter and is fully tax-deductible.

You have many donating options. Please choose one below:

Donor Advisors seeking to make a grant recommendation can complete this form, email it to or mail to: The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. Attn: Lindsey Costello, 2608 Genesee Street, Utica, NY 13502

We accept cash (in person only), checks, money orders and credit cards.  Checks should be made payable to “The Community Foundation” and the fund you are giving to (if restricted) should be named in the memo. Feel free to send a note with your gift if you have any special instructions. Gifts with no fund designation will be added to our General Fund. At your request, gifts can be transferred directly from your bank to The Foundation’s account – please contact our Finance Department at (315) 735-8212 for instructions. The gift date is the day we receive it.  At the end of the year, only gifts postmarked by Dec. 31 are considered a donation in that year.

Credit card gifts may be made by mail, by phone, or online.  We do not save or store your credit card numbers in our database to reduce the risk of identity theft.  All gift information is secure and protected. Charges are processed within one to two days. Online gifts are electronically acknowledged as well as formally through a letter.

Pledges for future gifts are gratefully accepted but must be in writing and include your signature. They should state the name of the fund that will benefit and the anticipated payment dates. The Foundation can provide a Pledge Form and will send you payment reminders, if requested. A pledge can be for no longer than five years.

Transferring stock to The Community Foundation is for many people the preferred way to make a gift. Gifts of appreciated securities often provide significant tax benefit. Contributions of appreciated stock held for more than a year are generally deductible at market value, regardless of what you paid for them. Accordingly, the capital gains tax is avoided. The Foundation recommends that you consult with your tax advisor regarding your specific tax situation.

To make a gift of stock:

  1.  Notify Nick Grimmer, Director of Giving Strategies, at (315) 731-3737 or email that a gift is being transferred. Provide the donor name, number of shares, and the name of the stock or the stock code, as well as the gift designation.
  2. Give your bank or broker the following instructions:
    • DTC Participant # 0141
    • Account # 21456224
    • M. Griffith Investment Services

    • Name of Donor: ___________________
