Overview

The Bernard "Ben" Turi Memorial Fund was established in 2022 by Ben's family to honor his loving, selfless, and hardworking spirit. Ben was a true family patriarch. He devoted his life to his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Ben was a exceptional athlete. He excelled in track, football, and basketball, and was known as “Crazy Legs Turi” for holding the Central Oneida League High Hurdle title for many years. He went on to coach varsity football at Proctor High School while he taught 4th grade at Conkling and Brandegee schools in Utica. This fund will support youth sports in the Utica area in honor of Ben.

Bernard "Ben" Turi Memorial Scholarship

As part of the Bernard "Ben" Turi Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, this scholarship was established by the Turi family in memory of their father to honor his loving, selfless, and hardworking spirit. Ben was a true family patriarch. He devoted his life to his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Ben was an exceptional athlete. He excelled in track, football, and basketball, and was known as “Crazy Legs Turi” for holding the Central Oneida League High Hurdle title for many years. He went on to coach varsity football at Proctor High School while he taught 4th grade at Conkling and Brandegee schools in Utica. This scholarship is awarded to a senior at Thomas R. Proctor High School who exemplified these same interests and qualities.

  • Participates in sports and athletic programs

  • Displays leadership qualities

  • Participates in performing arts programs

  • Attending Syracuse University
