Family memorializes Alex Kogut through grantmaking
In honor of their daughter Alexandra Kogut, Becky and Mark Kogut will make several grants through the donor-advised fund they set up in her memory at The Foundatoin
“When our beautiful daughter and sister, Alex, was taken from this world much too soon, we were entrusted with funds from various avenues and asked to utilize these funds to honor and remember her,” said Alex’s mother Becky Kogut. “Alex was a hard-working young woman who cared about her community as a whole and was a positive role model to any young person who had the pleasure to meet her.”
To honor her spirit, the Koguts will make their first grants from that fund as follows:
- To the Town of Inlet for the purchase of a double-seated lifeguard chair for the lake where Alex was a lifeguard.
- To Utica Dollars for Scholars for a scholarship to a graduating senior in Oneida or Herkimer counties.
- To The Literacy Coalition of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc. to support a fundraising event in September that will raise money for small community literacy grants. The grant is symbolic of Alex’s passion for reading, her parents said.
The donations the Koguts have received will be forever invested with The Foundation and continue to grow and have impact on the community in Alex’s name for generations to come.
“We selected The Foundation, because we were confident this was an organization that would help us to steward resources to both honor and remember Alex,” Becky Kogut said. “The Foundation is assisting us in ensuring agencies and individuals that embody qualities that Alex possessed will benefit from monies raised in her name. The charities chosen are ones that would have touched Alex’s kind heart.”
