The Boys and Girls Club of the Mohawk Valley Police Athletic League concluded its first season in August 2009. The program, which was funded in part by a grant from The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc., organized basketball teams for teens ages 13-18 and members of the Utica Police Department volunteered to coach while off-duty. Ninety teens and eight police officers participated in the 6-week program.

The 2010 recipient of The Foundation's Community Impact Award was Young Scholars Liberty Partnerships Program, a program of the Utica City School District and Utica College. Young Scholars has helped high school students at Proctor High School achieve their academic dreams since 1993.

The Community Impact Award recognizes nonprofit excellence in services and programs. The award honors an organization that has used its Community Foundation grant support for extraordinary impact and results.
